Alex J Lawson b. 1929

Born Edinburgh. A violinist from an early age, he still plays in local Highland Reel and Strathspey societies. Since retiring from a career in insurance he has devoted more time to composition, and his works include a collection of twenty original songs, an American Suite for piano, and Memories of Sarajevo for violin and piano or accordion (which won the Livingston Music Society Composition Competition 1995). Also 10 Collections of Scottish and Irish Melodies for violin and accordion. Each collection has around 50 tunes that the composer has written since his retiral in 1992. After the 7th Collection was published and distributed; Peter Graham arranged the march "To The Few' for Brass Band with a private recording by the Black Dyke Band (for private use only). In 1997 a CD was issued consisting of 40 of the composers tunes called:- Alex J Lawson and Friends Play his Own Compositions of Scottish and Irish Melodies, taken from the 1st 3 books of his Scottish and Irish melodies.
