Born Stonehaven. Educated Mackie Academy, graduated RSAMD 1971. Freelance pianist and composer after 35 years teaching, mainly in Beath High School, Cowdenbeath; Director of Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra. Has recently produced a CD ROM for the Wigmore Hall on Baroque and Jazz improvisation and "Listen Up" a Young Person's Guide to the Instruments of the Symphony Orchestra, Big band, Folk and Rock Band based on Jeremiah Clarke's Trumpet Tune.

Specialises in jazz improvisation. Directs Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra. Publications: Jazz Beginnings (Lomond Music) and Creative Jazz Education (Stainer and Bell - with Scott Stroman). Has given solo concerts throughout Scotland. Will improvise on themes suggested by the audience in any of 12 keys.
