John McIntosh b. 9/01/1944

John McIntosh studied music at the University of Glasgow under Frederick Rimmer and Hugh Wood, and taught music in Hillhead High School and Dunoon Grammar School, retiring in 2004. During that time he gained a reputation for his work with young jazz musicians and as a skilled choir trainer.

He has also worked for much of his life as a church organist. Since retiring, he has had several choral commissions from Alan Tavener for Cappella Nova and has been able to devote more time to composition and arranging for various choral ensembles. His recent works include a setting of the Mass for congregational use as well as some arrangements for women’s ensemble. He lives in Dunoon, in Argyll.
